liveonthegreenLive on the Green is a free outdoor concert series held every Thursday evening betweenSeptember 3rd and October 8th. This event will promote environment-conscoiusness and enhance the relationships between the music industry, Metro government and the community with the support from Lightning 100’s Team Green activity group. Team Green will incorporate sustainable practices into Live On the Green, including recycling, reusing materials, reducing energy usage and inviting participation by local healthy food vendors. The event will also showcase Nashville’s best musical talent. Admission is free and open to the public.

During the hot summer, canoeing down the Harpeth River is one of the best ways to cool down. You can rent your canoe equipment from Tip-A-Canoe. They are the most well-known company on the river. You don’t have to know anything about canoeing. The Harpeth River is pretty relaxing. Just take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Take the short route so you won’t get too exhausted at the end of the day. Remember you still have to drive back to Nashville. Call and make an appointment first at Tip-A-Canoe to make sure that the water level is not too low.

It takes about 25 to 30 minutes to reach Arrington from Nashville. This is a great place for a change of pace. Bring a date or the family to spend some time and have a picnic. You can bring food here but no alcoholic beverages but don’t worry when you arrive, get on the reservation list of the tasting bar for the free wine. They are pretty generous with their servings. Bring your own wine glass for your picnic otherwise you will need to purchase them from the winery. On weekends they offer live music.

If you enjoy bluegrass music and you need the full moon to transform into that musician you’ve been dreaming of, well this is the best place and time to show it. Well, you don’t need to be a musician to come here, you can simply listen and enjoy the music. Admission is cheap. If you buy your tickets before 5 PM the day before the event, you only pay $15. $20 if you purchase at the door and $10 if you’re between the ages 7 – 15 years old. The monies raised from this event will go directly to the Parks to ensure preservation, protection, funding educational programs, and special projects including camp-outs and hayrides for inner-city kids.

On a beautiful day in Nashville, take a leisurely tour of the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is a 444-mile winding road that starts of at Natchez, MS and ends in Nashville, TN off of Highway 100. It originally was an ancient trail used by animals and people that connected southern portions of the Mississippi River, through Alabama to central Tennessee. Of course you don’t have to take the entire 444-mile trip. You can start at Highway 100 until Leiper’s Fork. Enjoy the scenery and stop by the Natchez Trace Parkway Arches and appreciate the view.

Their Scottish links-style, par 72 layout offers 18 challenging holes bordered by limestone bluffs surrounded by federally protected wetlands. Located near the banks of the Cumberland River, it has become one of the best golf places in the United States. Gaylord Springs Golf Links has received numerous awards throughout the years. It has been voted as one of the “75 Best Golf Resorts in America” by Golf Digest, Golfweek’s “Americas Best Courses” and several other awards.

The Richland Country Club is an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus and built in 1988. Some described this course as exceedingly difficult. Hillwood Country Club is a private member club that opened in 1955 and was designed by Bubba Johnson. It is an 18-hole course that features 6,903 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course features 4 sets of teeboxes for the enjoyment of golfers of all skill levels. Hillwood Country Club has a wonderful scenery that adds to the pleasure of any golf game.

Ted Rhodes Golf Course was originally called Cumberland Golf Course. It originally was an 9-hole course when it opened in 1953. In May 1992, it expended into an 18-hole course designed by Gary Baird. Ted Rhodes Golf Course was named after the first African-American to play in a PGA-sanctioned event. It is situated on the banks of the Cumberland River in North Nashville. You can witness some wildlife that the lakes and rivers provide as a natural habitat. This course’s most difficult hole is #7, a 441-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot over a large ditch.
