During the hot summer, canoeing down the Harpeth River is one of the best ways to cool down. You can rent your canoe equipment from Tip-A-Canoe. They are the most well-known company on the river. You don’t have to know anything about canoeing. The Harpeth River is pretty relaxing. Just take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Take the short route so you won’t get too exhausted at the end of the day. Remember you still have to drive back to Nashville. Call and make an appointment first at Tip-A-Canoe to make sure that the water level is not too low.

It takes about 25 to 30 minutes to reach Arrington from Nashville. This is a great place for a change of pace. Bring a date or the family to spend some time and have a picnic. You can bring food here but no alcoholic beverages but don’t worry when you arrive, get on the reservation list of the tasting bar for the free wine. They are pretty generous with their servings. Bring your own wine glass for your picnic otherwise you will need to purchase them from the winery. On weekends they offer live music.

If you enjoy bluegrass music and you need the full moon to transform into that musician you’ve been dreaming of, well this is the best place and time to show it. Well, you don’t need to be a musician to come here, you can simply listen and enjoy the music. Admission is cheap. If you buy your tickets before 5 PM the day before the event, you only pay $15. $20 if you purchase at the door and $10 if you’re between the ages 7 – 15 years old. The monies raised from this event will go directly to the Parks to ensure preservation, protection, funding educational programs, and special projects including camp-outs and hayrides for inner-city kids.

On a beautiful day in Nashville, take a leisurely tour of the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is a 444-mile winding road that starts of at Natchez, MS and ends in Nashville, TN off of Highway 100. It originally was an ancient trail used by animals and people that connected southern portions of the Mississippi River, through Alabama to central Tennessee. Of course you don’t have to take the entire 444-mile trip. You can start at Highway 100 until Leiper’s Fork. Enjoy the scenery and stop by the Natchez Trace Parkway Arches and appreciate the view.

For a wild experience, visit the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere. Prepare to have long walks around the zoo. The spaces for the animals are enormous. Some attractive features of the zoo are the Bamboo Trail and the Grassmere Home.

On August 8 you can spend an evening after at the Nashville Zoo. They will featuring about the endangered species. You can check out the site for more details of the event.
